AN OPEN CHALLENGE FROM THE TRIUMPH.

Just 'recently in Christcburch the air has been thick with motor-cycle challenges and counter-challeDges, allegations e>l bluff, excuses, and explanations. The time has come to show where the Triumph stands in this matter, nnd to put' an end to an unprofitable controversy. , The trouble started with Mr. G. 8., Brown's open challenge to any make of motorcycle, irrespective of h.p., to a hill-climb-ing test on. Paekakariki or Sumner Hill. That challenge still goes begging. Then a firm of motor-cycle agents issued a counter-challenge to pit one of their machines against a tourist trophy Triumph on a speed test from Christchurck to Kaikoura and back. That counter-challengo was promptly accepted, but the publio are now being treated to a number of explanations as to why the contest has been declined by those who suggested it. Wβ are, however, delighted with the suggestion given in that counter-challenge that there should be n. contest "of some use to prospective buyers—a challenge of reliability." Had wo thought of it we should have issued such a challenge long ago. Such'a test should give- the genoral public an excellent criterion as to the comparative merits of various makes of motor-cycles. Wβ hasten,'therefore to avail ourselves of the very valuable suggestion given by our good friends of the J. A. Philp Motor Company, and on behalf of the Trumpli Motor Company, Ltd.. Coventry, we hereby, issuo a £10 challenge to all makes of motor-cycle, 3i h.p. or under, for a contest, Christcliurch to Kaikourn, via Cheviot, returning to Christchurch via Waiau, against time. No restrictions to be made as to ridors or ctjuipment by either side. The Kaikoura run is not our selection. It is the courso chosen by our competitors, but we ajrree that it is a good course for a test of reliability. We have issued a sporting challenge, without reservations or restrictions, and as evidenco of our desiro to make the test a purely sporting concern, we undertake to handover any money wo may win to the Christchurch Beautifying Association. Aro there auy acceptances for this challenge? Adams, Ltd., New Zealand agents for Triumph motor-cycles. Branches Wαnganui and Palmerston North; nnd agnnts Tourist Motor Co., Hastings.—Advt.
