Farewoll and Presentation. On Saturday afternoon the ladies of Belvedere met together at the house of Mrs. E. Eagle, junr., to bid farewell to Airs. Cheshire, an old and respected resident of the district, who is leaving for Auckland, to reside with her daughter, Mrs. Boucker. Afternoon tea was served in the drawing-room, which was beautifully decorated with sweet peas and lycopodium. Miss Eagle and Mrs. Davey contributed some music. Mr. Eagle, on behalf of Mrs. Eagle and the assembled guests, in a few well-chosen words, expressed their deep regret at parting, and asked Mrs. Cheshire to accept a small tribute. Mrs. Eagle then presented a handbag containing a purse of silver, towards which the staff ot the Belvedere factory contributed. All joined in wishing Mrs. Cheshire health and happiness in her future home.
Reception for the N.Z. High Commissioner. The London correspondent of the "British Australasian," of October 21, writes that the reception given by the Now Zealand Association to the High Commissioner for New Zealand and Mrs. Mackenzie was very successful and enjoyable. Tho great reception room's of the Westminster Palace Hotel were crowded with a larger and more representative company of New Zealanders than has been brought together in London since the festivities of the Coronation season. . Mr. and Mrs. Mackenzie received the guests, the latter wearing a handsome dress of black velvet, trimmed with silver and finished with a large red. rose. Miss Mackenzie was in white satin and lace, draped at one side in panier fashion, and caught with a bunch of roses.

The engagement Is announced of Miss Gertrude Smith,' of Taihape, second daughter of Mr. John Smith, of Wellington, late of Brisbane -(Queensland), and Mr. Herbert Coleman, accountant at W.nnganui, and late of Tondu, Glamorganshire, South Wales.
Miss Payne and Miss Drummond, who left Wellington some four or five weeks ago on a visit to Australia, are at present in Brisbane.
