DEPARTURE OF LORD ISLINGTON.
j FROM DOMINION. THE VICE-HEQAL ITINERARY; FABEWELL MESSAGE. (By Tolegrairtiv—Rross A*jociatlonj Auckland, December 2. Lord and Lady Islington left for Syd« ney by the Maheno this evening. At Sydney they join the Orient steamer Ostorlcy, sailing for London on Saturday next They will bo accompanied by .Cap* tain Symons, A.D.C. Lord Islington will leave the steamer at Colombo and proceed to Madras, where he will arrive about December 28. Hβ will then immediately commence duty as chairman of the Indian Public Service Commission. Lady Islington, who will be attended by Miss Stapleton Cotton and Captain MacDougall, A.D.C., will travel by the Osterley as far as Marseilles, and proceed by tho Continental route to London, where she will arrive about January 16. Mr. Arthur Guise, private' secretary to ' Lord Islington, left for Wellington tonight to complete a number of business matters. He will return to Auckland, and, accompanied by Mrs. Guise, will Bail for London, via Canada, on.December 20. Mr. A. Cecil Day, assistant private secretary, will remain in New Zealand for some time. Tho Governor-elect (Lord Liverpool) and Lady Liverpool are passengers by tho steamer Malwa, which is due at Auckland on December 18. The vice-regal party will leave the direct steamer at Melbourne and travel to Wellington by one of the intercolonial boats. During the interval prior to the arrival of Lord Liverpool, the Chief Justice (Sir .Robert Stout) will act as Administrator of the Government. The ceremony of swearing in the new Acting-Governor will tako place at Wellington to-morrow ' morning. Lord and Lady Islington on the ere of their departure from New Zealand bid iorewell on the following terms:— "Lady Islington and I wish to send a last message of farewell to the Dominion of New Zealand, our home for the last two years and a half. Wβ hope this message may carry, itself\ into those centres which we have not been able to visit. Especially may it reach those who live in the remote backblocks for whose work we entertain so much admiration, and for whose life we feel sd much, sympathy. . It is our earnest hope that peace and prosperity- may dwell amongst [you • ■ all. Wβ shall always have kindly happy recollections of the people .' whose guests and hosts we have been. Yachtsmen's Send-off to the Governor. Auckland yachtsmen made a splendid display on the harbour on jsaturday afternoon by way of a send-off to Lord* Isling-> ton, who was on the yacht Viking.H.M.S. Torch greeted his Excellency with a_ salute of sixteen guns, after which, eighty launches formed on the starboard! and sixty yachts on the port side of the Governor's yacht. The fleet proceeded to Kohimarama and returned to the wharf. The Governor formally acknowledged the salute as each vessel passed. "Many Thanks." The following is a copy of a telegram received by Mr. C. H. Pollock, 6eoretaTy of the New Zealand Club, in. reply to a message of farewell sent to Lord Islington r— Many thanks for kind wishes, Shall watch, with great interest future work of your excellent institution, which is doing so much for Imperial unity." Chief Justice Sworn In To-day. In. the interval, between his Excellency's departure to-day and the arrival of the Earl of Liverpool on December 18, the dTitiee of Governor will be discharged by the Chief Justice, Sir Bobert Stout. The ceremony of swearing-in the Acting-Gov-ernor will take place at 9.80 o'clock this morning.
