GERMANY AND THE VATICAN.
. _ -$ - "THE LIMIT OF INTERFERENCE." By Telegraph—Ptcss Association—Oopyrieht (Rec. December 8, 0.30 p.m.) Berlin, December 2. The "Frankfurter Zeitung" states that the Imperial Chancellor, Herr von Bethmann Hollweg,. has informed a, leading member ,of the Centre party that the recent Papal encyclical enjoining German Roman Catholic artisans to belong to purely Catholio trade nnionsj represented the limit o£ interference by the Vatican which could be permitted. A recurrence ■would cause the withdrawal of the Pruaeian Minister to the Vatican. Considerable interest attaches to the issue, as the Chancellor is depenrtont on the Catholio -wbe'to combat the Socialists. Friction has been increased by the Federal Council's rejection of Bavaria's claim for a more liberal interpretation of the anti-Jesuit law. The newspapers "Volke-fleitung" and "Gtrmania" declare that Catholics will never tolerate the police rejime which a Prussianised Germany seeka to Impose on Jesuit propaganda. ■
