PROPOSED LEASE TO BOWLERS. Inoluded in the business dealt with by the City Council lctst night was the final disjrosal of Councillor Atkinson's notice of motion to rescind a resolution passed at the'mesting of the.council held on October 31, re proposal to grant the ICelburne Bowling Club a lease of portion of Kelburne Park. . '.The debate on the motion had been adjourned a fortnight ago (on the motion of; Councillor Barber), in order to give councillors an opportunity of visiting Kelburfie Park, and viewing the locality before: voting. Practically all the councillors hatF spoken on the question before the adjournment. . ' Councillor Smith',"who had not been present at the previous meeting when the rescinding motion was under discussion, now voiced Ms protest against any per-, tion' .of ;the reserve; being leased to the' bowling club. Councillor Fitzgerald, who had' not spoken at . the previous meeting, expressed himself against the rescinding motion.. On the vote being taken. Councillor Atkinson's motion was oarried by. eight votes to .seven. The voting was as follows:— " Ayes: The Mayor, Councillors Atkinson, Cameron, Fletcher, Hindmarsh, M'Kenzie. Smith, and 'iWaTv Noes: Councillors Cohen,' Fitzgerald, Frost, Fuller, Godber,. Shirtcliffe, ana Tfsvor. ■ ■ . ■ • ■ . A deputation of ladie3 from Keiburne appeared at'the'meeting'to renew an application' made some six months ago for a piece of ground—either a portion of Kel-. burne.Park or a piece of the Town Belt above Victoria College—on which to. play croquet. Their/former request had been met by. a prompt refusal, and they did not think it was fair, for the council now to propose ,to allot a. piece of ground to ;a bowling club. The croquet club, if formed, was; assured ,of a' membership of 100 members. It was stated on behalf of the ladies that they would be willing to cooperate with a bowling club in the event of; a grant of land being made. . .As it happened, the bowling club was not given a lease, so that the deputation availed nothing. , . ,
