ARRIVE HERE NEXT WEEK. Next week will be a week of weeks m far as local swimmers are concerned, the occasion being the visit of the Sydney crack swimmers. The .visiting team, which comprises "Tod" Hav, and Riddington, will arrive here on Wednesday, December i, by the Maunganui. They will be met at the wharf by soma of the local swimming officials, and at 5.15 p.m., in the Town Hall, a civic public welcome will be tendered bv the Mayor. After the reception the visitors will be enabled to make an inspection of the city until Saturday, when the Wellington Swimming Centre are holding a carnival at the Te Aro Baths, in connection with their visit. A meeting of the centre's executive was held on Monday night, when a programme for the carnival was drawn up. The programme will include the following events: —50yds. handicap, 100 yds. handicap, 150 yds. inter-club teams' race (handicap). In the above events members of the Sydney teain will Btart off scratch. There will be diving competitions,.and Riddington, Sydney's. champion diver, will give an exhibition. An attempt will be made to lower the 150 yds. Australasian record - by Hay and Solomons (ex-world's record holder). In all probability, Sir Robert Stout, the Prime Minister (Hon. W. F. Massey), members of the Cabinet, and tha Mayor will be present. "Tod"' Solomons is to give an exhibition of starting, as he.claims that Wellington is a good deaLbehind in-this resi pect. Solomons, is recognised by the Sydney clubs as the best starter in Australia. The Lyall Bay Surf Club has invited, the visitors to visit Lyall Bay on the Sunday following the centre's carnival, where they will give exhibitions of "surf; ing" and life-saving.
