THE NEW RAILWAY REGIME.
e — HOPING FOR KEDKESS. (Dy Telegraph.—Press Association.) Christchurch, November 27. At the quarterly meeting of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce Albert Kaye brought up the question of examination of luggage of overseas passengers at i'Christchurch Railway Station instead of at Lyttelton. In the discussion which ensued Mr. A. H. Turubull said he was strongly of opinion, that they would get no redress as long as they had the present staff controlling tho railways. Their actions generally were controlled by red tape, and many of thorn were inefficient and insufficiently paid. The decision to get a general manager from Home was a step iu the right direction, and he suggested that on his arrival in the Dominion the different Chambers of Commerce should bring under his notice their grievances with the object of getting them remedied and improvements suggested. Mr. J. A. Frostick said that in view of the approaching appointment of a new general manager, Mr. Turnbull's suggestion should be given effect to. Mr. Turnbull then moved and Mr. Frostick seconded, "That as soon as the new general manager of railways arrives in the Dominion united action be taken by the different Chambers of.Commerce to bring under his notice necessary requirements and adjustments in tariffs and working of the railways throughout the Dominion." The motion was agreed to.
