SHANNON NOTES.

At the meeting of the local branch of the TJ.A.O.D. last week, P.A. Bro. T.'Lind was elected lodge representative, at the forthcoming biennial conference, to bo held at Marton in February. Bro. TCnyvett, of the Feilding Lodge, entertained the gathering witJi musical selections. A large number of nominations for the various offices were received. During the evening D.P. Bro. J. W, Murray presented Bro. E. J. ICipg, A.D., with a gold medal, donated by Mr. Roos, for obtaining the greatest number of members, during tho last six. months. Bro. T. Lind has presented a gold medal for the member who obtains most new members during the next six months. The All Nations Pair, held under the auspices of the Venerable Bede's Ladies' Guild, was opened on Friday afternoon by the Rev. Archdeacon Fancourt. Ho briefly traced the 'history of the local' church, recalling the.time when the only church between Shannon and Otaki wns a little Catholic church at Ohau. There was a large attendance on Friday, nnd on Saturday evening tKe Druids' Hall was crowded. The decorated stalls- wore as follow:—Handkerchief stall. Vickars; "The Donkey," Mr. Bildcrbeck; shooting gallery, Mr. H. Mowbray; ponterinogrnph, Mr. C. Jones. The tea-rooms were under the supervision of Mesdames Gunning, Whitehouse, and Kirkland. Mrs. Coles did a, capital, bus!-nr-jw ns a fortune teller, nnd Miss Linsell. attired as a "Maid of Athens," presided over the mysteries of. tho bran tub. Tho Shannon Dramatic Society's orchestra, under the direction of Miss 0.. Lauvig, contributed selections, and selections were also played by Mr. Knyvctt, of Feilding. Mr. IT. Groig, managing director of Whitanni, Ltd., nnd Temukanui, Ltd., accompanied by Airs. Gveig, and Mr. If. K. Greig, leave on a visit to tho Old Country and the Continent of Europe at the beginning of February.

At Dannevirko the other day a very creditable performance was put up by'.f. Bissell on a Rudgc Motor Cycle. This rider steered his Rudge 25 miles over hilly country in the Jobnstone-Neilson Cup Competition. He covered the distance in 22 minutes 1-5 seconds, on 2Goz. of petrol, and won first place.
