BRITISH BY-ELECTION.
- SUFFRAGETTE CHAMPION . DEFEATED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, November 26. Tho by-election for the Tower Hamlets (Bow and Bromley) seat, caused by the resignation of the sitting member, Mr. George Lansbury (Labour) resulted:— Mr. Blair (Unionist) - 11)12 Mr. Lansbury 3291 Unionist majority 751 . The suffragettes conducted an active campaign on behalf of Mr. Lansbury, who had resigned to contest tho sent as a suffragette ohumpion. The contest, however, was not confined to the franchise question. Aggrieved workers complained about the Insurance Act, and Mr. Lansbury suggested that it should be repealed. Many Liberals and Labour supporters abstained from voting. At the last general election Mr. Lansbury. was returned by a majority of 803 votes over the Unionist candidate, the voting being: Mr. Lansbury (Labour), ■1315; Mr. Araery (Unionist), 3452.
