After an absence of over eight years the Tyser liner Star of England is to again visit the Commonwealth, having been fixed to load at London for Sydney. This famove. old vessel, which was withdrawn owing to the demands of trade warranting the introduction of larger vessels capable of carrying bigger cargoes. Ira's, during the intervening'years, been employed in the trade between London and the River Plate, and the fact ot her coming thiß way again also recalls the times when the Commonwealth did a very large trade witb South Africa. She, with the Star of Victoriaand the old Hawke's Bay, maintained a monthly service between Australia and the Cape, carrying regularly laTge cargoes oj frocen meot, flour, timber, and sugar, and returning in ballast; but as South Africa, became more self-supporting trade diminished and the service ceased. As if to make her reappearance in the Australian trade more remarkable, the : Star of England has as master Cnplain \V. R. Brooke, the eailor author, as ho is familiarly ltnown among friends. Oa.pt-ain Brooke, who, when last in Australia, was chief officer of the Star of Australia, a post he held for some considerable time, lias contributed many sea yarns to Australian weekly papers, and, besides, is the Writer of "The Log of a Sailor Man," "Over the Blue Waves," and a few other works. Riverina would take the place of the Victoria. "Should this schemo eventuate," concludes tho paragraph, "it would give great satisfaction to the travelling public, as tho liiverina is a vessel of 4758 tons gross."
