OTAKI NOTES.

(From Our Bceoial Correspondent.) Mr. Alfred Cutler, an old resident of Manakau, died on Friday evening, after a long illness. Deceased was a bridge builder by trade, and helped to build the Queen's Wharf at Wellington. A start was made yesterday to dismantle the Town Hall, in preparation to enlarging aud otherwise improving it. A house, previously occupied by the late Mr. Wi Parata, was destroyed by fire yesterday. The house was a fine one, and was being enlarged and improved by Mr. Twist, of Wellington, who had hoped to have the whole completed in the course of a week or two, it being the intention of Mr. and Mrs. Hira Parata to take up their abode there. Many valuable Maori curios were destroyed in the fire.

Messrs. F. H. Bright and Alex. M'Clelland landed a number of trout from one of 'the local streams on Sunday, the fish all being of good size and quality. The catch was ono of tho best yet made by theso ardent fishers this season. Tho funeral of the late Mr. John George, who died at Manakau on Friday, took place on Sunday,.and was largely attended. Tho Rev. T. Jones officiated.
