' The Marlborough -Raciiig-'Club ? s- spring hneeting-was concluded to-day in fine, but ■■dull, weather: .The attendance .was fair, >and those present wer.e rewarded with (some;fine, sport," Th'a fields'were..bigger than : on-the first <hvy> and the.racing was full of surprises.' There -was an accident •. ■ via the first race when.Biddy fell with the (Trentham apprentice, M. M'lntosh, who sustained' concussion of the brain. Drs. .Bennett and Walker happened to be .standing near the'spot and they attended 'to the youngster and immediately had him to the hospital in the ambulance. The', totalisator ajjaiu. showed an ihorease. over last year's figures. '- : Borsil, Buapara, and Achilledes were backed in that order on the machine for the first race, and they l ' occupied the places at tho'finish, though'not in the order as indicated on the machine.. Ruapara'(Deeley) and 'Borsil." (Brice)' began . smartly, but were soon joined by Alofa on the.'outside. They- raced in.a line just ■clear of Achilledes to the turn, where the last-named displaced Alofa. A hundred yards off. the post Borsil'was aneeK in front.of Ruapara,. but the latter stuck to his task-wall'and beat the favourito by a bare length. Alofa was fourth. There'were eight runners in the trot ■nnd three' of them . were well supported. These were: Terry L., Glenidol, and Eclat. The last-named ran a: much improved race to-day and was'soon in a prominent position. He allowed Young Quincy to lead, him until the half-mile, when ho went to ths front and won'by a chaiii. Molly Wood was a length • in ' frunt of Glenidol. The, latter broke badly- a ■couple'of times or would have been secSnd. : A protest was' entered against the second horse for boring, but it was.dismissed. . The- Oinaka Hack Handicap was a threehorse race, and resulted in a great "turnup." Rustic, who is owned by Mr. Hy. Monro, and trained by an old-time trainer in Frank Bolton, was the outsider of the trio, but to the.general surprise he won handsomely. The horses kept well together.. ,to ,the half-mile,-when Rustic forg:Sd ahead and St., Bees, who.was a very hot iav6urite v got ■ tired and - started • t'odrop back; Astonishment also fell back n little further on, and Rustic came into the straight with a good lead. His big null -:n the weights stood h'ini, '• and he won very easily. Though a Tank outsider had won the public cheered, heartily and the applause continued at: interval's till the horse-left the.course...: ; Beacon's form on the. opening day made it look (in the absence of Sinapis) a good thm "i? r hlm iu tIK Kivcrlands Hnndi cap. The result was never, in- doubt, foi the bay geldmg was quick into 'his stride, and never let the field near him. St. Felix was running second uiost of thu way, but' Brown Trout headed-him a uouple: of strides off the .post. - The other pair finished a'long way back. Merry Guy/with Deeley in the saddle Avas a hot favourite in the Dash' Hack Handicap, with Aratiatiii nest in demand. Tho pair drew outside numbers, btft were together in the van" as they raced.into the straight. Their. positions were Bg>.inst. [ them •". here, as '. they; were, both wide out, and:Panthea aiid Ladino; who .. Were 'on .the inside, had, too much pace in the run home. The winner (Panthea), was offered at auction in the'morning, but no bid was forthcoming for her. After the race she was again put up and sold to Mr. . A. Bore for 50 guineas. - , ' There were only four Twiners in the Telegraph Handicap, l .but.three of them carried nearly ermal investments. Portland Lady. was the best backed, ■ and she •left the' mark first, but was hanging out the whole way. Longstep was away badly, but she soon raced to the front, and got the rails. Her rider then wisely spelled ' iter, and when Bracken and Merchantman put in claims at tire straight entrance Portland-Lady again hung otit, and took the other pair with-her. This left Longstep with a good lead, and sh«. won by three lengths, witli the favourite unplaced. Merchantman got on to Portland Lady's heels at the, bottom of the course, and wis nearly-down. Kina, despite his big weight, curried the con/idenco of his connections in the concluding event. Ho and Ruapara monopolised the, attention of backers, aiid the . others'were not considered..-It was is good race, the fiv* runners racing in n hwvh totWtUi'il.'
