Mci'fion, lately in tho employ of (ho Lands Department, Wanganui, was brrforo (lie Court to-dily charged with forgery and embezzlement. The amount of the defalcations wa« stated to bo somo .£IBOO, extending over many months. There wore a very large number of charges. Accused had apparently altered tho wages sheets of the men working on tho Parapnra Road, so as to represent that moro were employed than was really tho case, and, then signed receipts for wages so represented, drawing a cheque for tho difference and keeping it himself. Accused pleaded guilty, and was committed to tho Supreme Court for sentence. Bail was refused. Prisoner was recently arrested in Wellington when about to leave tho Dominion.
