FARRI LABOUR.
A, GOVERNMENT SCHEME. _ (By Telegraph—Press -Association.) Auckland, November 20. ,-. Replying to a deputation which waited uponJiim.jn.regard n to-farm labour, Mr. Jlassey'said the Webment intended todo more in future than had been done in the past. Tha High-Commissioner had been instructed accordingly. The rapidly increasing liabilities-, of. the country demanded an increase in the number or producers. He intended to- look'into the official reports of the • Sedgwick experiment. He believed- it had been very successful, and if it had been so, there was no. reason why- it should not be repeated. The Government already had a scheme in hand to encourage labourers to go to the country. -Ho was'prepared to imeet the needs of the country districts by the following scheme: If any local body, or organisation of farmers, showed that there was room to do so, the Government would take over the land and provide for each worker a residence upon a sufficient area of land for profitable occupation. All that woujd be required would be a guarantee that the interest and sinking fund upon the outlay would- be forthoominir. Ho would like to see the experiment tried and felt sure it would be successful.
