Mr. Henry Cheshire, a very old .Wairarapa resident, died in the South Wairarapa. Hospital on Tuesday morning. Deceased was a native of Birmingham, and had attained the ripe age of 73 years. Ho came to New- Zealand 4!) years ago, and lias resided 35 years in the Wairarapa. •Mr. -Cheshire is survived by his second wife and four adult children of tho first marriage.. A two-storied dwelling in Park Road, belonging to Mr. Frank Dixon, was destroyed by • fire on Monday night. The building was unoccupied at the timor-the tenant, had only removed that day. No cause has been assigned for the fire, beyond tho fact that some lyibbish waa burnt in the fireplace before the tenant left, and it may havo been caused by a defective chimney. The building was insilred for ',£lso' in' the State Office. • OTAKI. Lawn- tennis this season has already mado good progress,'and "the'locnl club has not allowed the grass to grow-nnder its feet, as was the case last year. The clulv boasts of ' a -large • membership of active members, and the courts—three in number—aro well patronised., Handicap matches are now being arranged, the club offering trophies to the winners. The games commence straight away, and some keen contests are awaited. It is expected with the advent of better weather to organise local parties to scale the Tararuas during next month. Several residents are keenly interested, and no doubt a number will' cross over to Wairarapa, while parties are also, expected from that side of the range.
