(From Our Bgscial Oorr6BlJ*>ndcnt3.l < yl CARTERTON. A very successful RP.rden. party in aid of the Dalefiehl Methodist Sunday School was held at Mr. l'\ Jones's residence at Jtatarawa. There was a good attendance, visitors being present from Greytown and Carterton. The Rev- C. H. Standage opened the bazaar. The superintendent, { Mr. C. Jones, the assistant, Mr. E. innniclilTo, with Miss C. Jones, acted as hosts j and soon games of all kinds were in progress. The various stalls received their j fair share, of attention, the Mies 111 ; charge being:—Fancy ■ stall, Jlesdames / West and TunniclilTe; lollie stall. Misses j Ordish and M. Tmmicliffo; and tho girls , of the Sunday School, were 111 charge of ; a third. Miss Hedge had charge oi tho bran tub. Tho tea-rooms did good busi- . ness, Miss L. Jones being in charge, witn , Mrs. Say well, Misses Thomas, Gordan, , ami Standage as assistants. . , Another tourney, under the auspices oi tho local fire brigade was held on Iriday evening, Mrs. J. Edwards winning the ladies' first prize, and Jtiss Morris tho consolation, while Mr. H. Neilsen and Mr. Ct. Abbott won the same honours amongst the gentlemen. .There was a good attendance and a very enjoyable time was spent. GREYTOWN. The Greytown District High School Committee has voted , towards crxclMt and tennis material for the school cliildren to replace "that destroyed at tho recent Buchanan, M.P., has been urging the Education Department to expedite the erection of the new High School. Tho Minister has promised to attend to tho matter as soon as possible. _ Inquiries are being made from 1 aimerston , North and elsewhere regarding the Mount Hector track. A number of parties intend doing the trip this season, and wish to know if the track is open foi horse traffic. Jlr. Maxton, the lion, secretary, informs us that' as yet the track is not open right through, but as the committees on each side of the "ri t Divide" are strenu'ously working to tnat end, it is hoped to shortly _ "P 1 ™- ' or through horso traffic as a bridle track. SHANNON. Th; Levin Dramatic Society presented 1 "Alone in the World" to a somewhat disappointing audienco in tho Druids xi.au on Friday night. • , A branch of tho United Labour partj was formed at Shannon on Saturday night, when tho following officers were elected:— President, Jlr. T. Lind; vice-president, Mr.'J.-G. Barclay; secretary, ;Mr. J. J. Trainer; treasurer, Jlr. J. Hallam; committee, Messrs. ; Hensman, Hudson, and | the Rev. Mr. Norman. Hyde.

Constable Satherley had the body brou D ht into Otaki, aud to-day it was taken on to Joxton, where an luquest will U<> the Police Court to-day a man named Doone, with several abases, appealed, chareed with drunkenness and obscene Sage. It was stated in eyidenco that he was o;ie of the Waihi strikers, and on hearing the word scab be cam offensive. For being drunk lie was Illicit tin default forty-eight hours' imprisonment and for obsoeno language he .15 sentenced to tliTee months' imprisonment without tho option of a fine.
