WEPT AT THE ALTAR.
BRIDE'REFUSES TO SAY "OBEY."' "I insist on my wife obeying my every wish." Such were the words of a rich New York banker, .Mr. Morris Holmes, when his fiancee objected at the altar to the word "obey" being used in the marriage service. The church had been beautifully decorated, and was crowded with friends of the bride and bridegroom. The principals, stood before the chancel-Tail,. tn>e bride, Miss Elizabeth Blauvelt, in an elaborate wedding gown, with four bridesmaids standing behind her. Tlie service had b«gun, when the bride interrupted to instruct the clergyman to omit the word "obey." •Mr. Holmes immediately said, ''Certainly uot. That word is in tho service," and the clergyman remonstrated with the bride. She, however, refused to use tho word or to say that she would obey. Mr. Holmes then declared that he would not be married to a woman who would not obey. "I insist," said he, "on my wife obeying my every wish." There was a dramatic scene. The bride burst into tears and implored the bridegroom to reconsider his decision, although sho was unwilling to surrender her posilion. The clergyman and the friends of both parties sought to biiing about an agreement. Mr. Holmes, however, refused to proceed with. tho wedding ceremony, and the two separated at the altar, and left tho church in separate carriages. The variableness of Wellington weather is a prime factor in causing roughness of the skin. Wind and rain join forces in this fell work by making the complexion coarse and chapping the hands. The. ravages of unseasonable weather may be combated by the use of Mrs. Rolleston's Complexion Creams, which are imported from leading houses in France, England, and America, and sold at 3s. Gd. per jar. "La Cigale" is a leading French nongreasy Face Cream. An English preparation, "Massiene" is a successful complexion beautifier; while for removing blackheads and skin blemishes, the Virginian Massage Cream is also a great favourite. Free advice is given purchasers regarding their complexions. Mrs. Rolleston, 250 Lambton Quay (opp. Economic).—Advt.
