WANGANUI JOTTINGS
(By Telegraph— Special Correspondent.) Wanganui, November 16. The Wanganui Beautifying Society should, before long, have plants native to all parts of the globe in its gardens. A local resident has just imported for the society large parcels of 6eeds of rare South African and Australian plants. Aram oho is moving into line with the other suburbs in work of town . beautification, and a branch Beautifying Society is about to be formed there. A well-known Native,; Hero Te Hokowhitu, died last evening in a private hospital from typhoid. It is probable that death will be followed by police proceedings, as it is alleged that before his friends got him to the hospital a female tohunga had been treating him, with the result that medical aid was called too late to be of service. The Wanjjanui tramway carried 160,524 passengers m October, an increase of 43,750 over the corresponding month of last year. - The revenue from all sources was JEJI26O, of which the borough portion of the service earned .£936. The. GonvilleCastlecliCE section again earned a 6mall surplus over the working expenses for the Tramway Board, and now that a full eervice is running on this portion of the system, and the summer, traffic to the seaside is approaching, the;, position is expected still further to improve, so far as revenues of the Tramway Board are concerned. •
