LONG DISTANCE TELEPHONY.
BEVISION OF CH4MES.
' This week's Gazette -contains a notification of an amendment in the regulations governing the charges for telephoning over long distances. The pew regulation' is as follows:— "The following are the charges for the use of.Government telephones for the purposo of conversing over long-distanco wires on Sundays or at other times approved by the Minister* usually between, midnight and 8 a.m. "The applicant for a, long-distance communication must in all caste .make his own arrangements for the attendance of the person with whom he desires to communicate, and any permission required by telegraph for. the joining' through of any circuit to effect the communication must, be obtained, by a reply-paid message s— "(a) 'When the conversation takes place through exchanges . which are open con-, tinuously, or through other exchanges or bureaux during the ordinary hotirs of attendance of switch-board or bureau attendants: For a period not exceeding -six minutes, 2s. 6d.; and a further charge of sd. for every additional minute or fraction thereof.
"(b) When the special attendance of ail officer is required lor the opening of any office for the purposo of obtaining a longdistance bureau communication, a reopening, fee of Is. must be paid by the person making the request. "If officers are required to remain in attendance for any timo longer than that taken for tho actual transmission of tho communication, such extended attendance must be paid for as overtime at the Tate -fixed br the Department's regulations. • ■ "(c) 'When special attendance-of switchboard, or bureau attendants out of ordinary hours of attendance is required, then for .each'switch-board or bureau attendant called upon to make the necessary wire-connections: For every hour or less, Is., in addition to tho charges set forth in paragraph (a).*"
