CONFERENCE'IN THE CITY.' ' A conference'-under'the auspices of the various Chambers of Commerce and representing tlie maMire manufacturers and importers of New Zealand, and tlio New Zealand Fanners' Union, was lielil yesterday morning in the Wellington Chamber of Comirtei^e. . The following delegates were present:— Jtessrs. G. Shirlclifts, chairman (Wellington- and Timaru); ft. G. Bislioy and F. K. Jones (Canterbury); .S. A, Longnct (Auckland); Newton 'Iviiur (New Plymouth) ; I'crry (Mttsterton); W. D. Hunt (Duncdin); F, A. Ilarkness (Wellington and Napier); Ei W. Waterhouse (Wellington); E. C. Jack, J)ominion secretary, New Zealand Farmers' Union. The following resolutions were carried: —"(I) That this conference, convened by tlie various Chambers of Commerce,. anil representing the manure manufacturers, importers, and the New Zealand Farmers' Union, considers that on and after December 31, 1013, iill importations of superphosphate and basic .slag ill .bags should bo in packages of not more than 1491b.,' gross weight, itnd that each bag have two lugs. (2) That .the shipping companies be notified of the decision come to, and. that they be -requested to do all that lies in their power to assist in giving- effect thereto. Also that they and the various Harbour Boards ba asked to instruct their stevedores to take aetiou to prevent the use of;-hpo}re-.dn. handling these manures. (3) That the resolutions carried at this conference be communicated to the Chambers of Commerce throughout, the Dominion, with a request that they be passed on promptly 'to the importers of manures.'"'
