' An application for a special jury this wanted: by Mr. Justico Sim yesterday in the .case of Northcotfc v. Hughes, a claim in connection with a patent winch have been : registered ;in Australia. , Tho question was whether the ♦ patent should have been' registered by t convention: or not; and whether publication; in < the Gazette in Melbourne was su&cient to enable tho publio to construct the machines. Mr T Young, on behalf of the defendant, "contended- that, as expert, evidence would be called, the case was a proper one for a special jury. , - Mr. A. rair appeared for'plaintift, ana opposed the' application, , yHis' Honour held that expert knowledge would be required, arid tho-case was a proper , one for a .special Jury.
