The' rainfall for, the month of October' was a heavy one, totalling 4.53 inches,, the heaviest fall (.82in.) beinj* on October 2G. There were no fewer 'than 24 days of rain.. The fall for October, 1.911, was 2.70 inches, while the average for that 'month for the past, eight years., was. 4.,12 inches. Rain' started to fall at .an :early hour this morning'and before 5 a.m. 1.42 inches had fallen, while at 10 a.m. considerably over li inch was recorded. Mr. Morgan Carkeek, chairman of the Tararua Track Committee, has been, notified by the Tourist Department that the. question .of subsidy, for a track and' moling tain house was under.'.consideration in the making up of the Supplementary ,£stir ■mates, and ..that-'there is every prospect of a'subsidv.
