STRANGE COURT SCENE. LAWYER THROWN OVER A CHAIR. BY THE POLICE. (Bj Telsßranhi-Prpßß ..Association.) Whangarsi; November 4. Huston, with four aliases, was before tho Court to-day on -two charges of burglary arid two of breaking from ciistody. During the hearing, whilo writing,. Buston ftecil liiinsolf from tho patent American. spring handcuffs, then rottred with laughter at tho. police and detectives, Another search failed to reveal any possible instrument that had been used to assist him, nor would Huston say how he freed himself. ■ " ' Huston was before the Court oil day to-day, -and was... eventually committed' for trial on three charges of burglary and theft, and 'two of breaking custody.'■ In the afternoon Huston submitted a detective to a satirical examination on tho search rnade when - the knifo was concealed with which he cut his way out Of his cell, finally remarking: "After your search, I could take a siwrnill into the cells." - . The prisoner was -carcfully watched diirin? tho afternoon', as it was stated that he would repeat .his previons per- ; formance and release himself from the handcuffs. . : „. A solicitor (Mr. Edmunds) at the close of the first case stated that he would Act as. eeunscj for: prisoner and asked an interview. The police objected, as coun- : sel had not been engaged by Hnston. Mr. Edmunds, then addressed the Bench lengthily. The Bench declined to allow .an interview, and Mr. : Edmunds then .handed prisoner a paper, which, however, was quickly' 6natched by a detective. . .. A scuffle ensued between the police and ■Mr. Edmunds,, who was finally thrown over a ohair. Mr. Edmunds appeared in two later cases against Huston, aivd then abruptly left - the Court • without comment. When taking the, prisoner from tho ■Court to the cells to-night the crowd hooted tho police and gave cheers for Huston. ... ■
