On Wednesday his Excellency and Lady Islington will leave for Christahurcli to attend the Canterbury Jockoy Club's spring meeting. On Thursday Lord boh will mcflt leading agriculturists of tho Canterbury district, and on Friday Lord, and Lady Islington ivi 11 attend tho Canterbury show. On November U Lady Islington will leavo G'hristchuroh for Wellington, but his Excellency, vrlio is to visit Timaru, Oamaru, Dunedin, and Invercargill will not return until November 17.
Cablo information has been received ofthe death of Dr. William A. Reid, at the Royal Infirmary, Glasgow, on Wednesday last. Dr. Reid, who is a son of Mr. W. S. lleid, of Wellington, was 37 years Of age.
Mr. W, A. Beddoe, Canadian Trade Commissioner, who is at present in Wellington for the purpose of weiooniing the Canadian Cadets, ia staying at the Royal Oak. The cadets will leavo Lyttelton'on Tuesday night by tho Maori and arrive here en Wednesday morning.
Professor MaeMillan Brown, of Christchurch, arrived in Sydney yesterday from a six months' trip to, the Malay Archipelago. Ho sails for New Zealand en November 9.'—Press Association.
•Tho golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Hougham, of Henderson, Auckland, was celebrated at their residence on Wednesday last. Mr. and- Mrs. Hougham were married in Trinity Church, London, on October 30, 1862, and, with the Alhertland settles, left' for New Zealand, in tfe ship Gertrude the following day. Upon arrival in February, 1805, Mr. aild Mrs. Hengham remained in Auckland, and did not, like the Albortland settlers, take up land. It was not until 1883 that they commenced fruit-growing at Henderson, where they have resided ever since. Mr. Hougham is iiow oho of tho leading fruit-growers of the north.
