Mr. Sherman was an experienced Congressman, having boen in the House of Eepresentatives for nearly twenty years. In appearance Mr. Sherman suggested 'an English squire; he had attractive personal qualities, and was popular. Although, a lawyer by profession, he succeeded as a banker, and in business as well as in politics.
