Bull whether it wat tlio intention of the Govornment to, point a Koyal Commission on university education, Tho Hon. Jas. Allen replied: A petition presented to the House last yea* asking for a Royal Commission on university education was referred to (lie Education Committee, which, after taking evidenoe, mado cortain recommendn/tion6. One of the reoommondations was that the Inspector-General of Schools should make inquiry into tho needs and revenues of the four University Colleges, This was done, and the Inspector-Gen. erol's report was referred, to the Education Committee only last week. The report has since oomo back from the committee with the recommendation that, as tho time at thoir disposal was inadequate to deal with it, consideration of tlio report should bo held over until tha commencement of next session 1 . Undo! theso circumstances, nothing further can lw done in the mutter until next year.
