At tho last hieeting of tho Wairarapu South County Council a number of settlers of Carrington petitioned the council, aakinj for the removal of a. hill that obstructed tho view of approaching traffic near the bridge. Councillor 'I. V. Jloore was delegated to inquire into the matter, with power to act. The ffuessos recorded in connection with the competition at tho AVairarapa show last week were sorted on Monday, when ties wore found in each of tho three competitions, the winners having to be decided by ballot. Messrs. o.' Smith (Masterton) and It. Banks (Carlerton) each 'guessed tho correct weight of (lie heifer (5191b.), Mr. Smith winning in the ballot. Messrs. J. H. Hodgson, of Kahutara, and 0. D. Hengerty, of GTeytown, guessed nearest to the correct weight uf the two sheep, Mr. Hodgson winning thfi ballot. The pig went 1311b., tho nearest guess being recorded by Messrs. 0. A. Edge (Carterton), and G. Baiubey (C«rterton), Mr. Edgo winning the ballot.
OTAKI. The opening of tho bowling season took place at Otaki on Monday, when the weather was .glorious, and in. direct contrast to the weather just previously experienced. There were about 100 people present, including bowlers from Hataitaiond Khandallah. Mr. A. J. 3. Thomson, vice-president, welcomed the vieitora, Mid mentioned the progTese of tho club. Mrs. Thomson then rolled the "jack," after which the green was declared open. Afternoon tea was dispensed. The club will be represented at the opening of the Khandallah greea on Saturday nest. Tho crickot season was opened here on Monday, when there were a largo number of members presont, and a good practice ensued.
Tennis playere were also to the foro on Monday, taking full advantage of both the weather and the holiday, and the courts were well patronised, practically all day. Members of the club wero entertained by tho Bowling Club at afternoon tea, a fact that was much appreciated.
