The fortnightly meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held yesterday afternoon. It appeared from the proceedings. at the meeting that the society has been in communication with similar socioties in New South Wales and Victoria, and as a result it ,was resolved to write to all branches of the society in New Zealand suggesting tho formation of au incorporated Neiv Zealand Society, to he registered under >tho Unclassified Societies Act, and to meet in conference annually. A leugtihy discussion regarding tho licensing and overloading of pecially carts on hills—arose out of the inspector's report. As, the polico were believed to have the matter in hand .no action was taken.

It was also decided to hold an annual meeting, and a committee, consisting of tho president, Mr. Webb, Mrs. Christie, and the secretary, was set up to make arrangements.
