A TALE OF OLD JAPAN.
The box plan for tho Choral Society's final subscription concert of (ho present .season will open at the Hrosde.it rooms to-morrow morning at 9 o'clock. Coleridge Taylor's newest work, "A Tale of Old Japan," will bo performed for the first time South of tho Line in tho Town Hall on Friday. November 8, under the baton of Mr. Maughan Barnett. Thesoloists engaged for the abovo work are as follow:—Soprano, Madamo Brings; contralto, Miss C. If. Denham; tenor, Mr. Sydney Butler; baritone, Jfr. Hamilton Hodges. It was in November, 1808, that -Mr. Taylor's "Hiawatha's Wedding Feast" was given for t>lo first time. The tvork made un exceedingly strong impression. It has been performed many times in Now Zealand. Samuel Coleridge Taylor describes "A Tale of Old Japan" as'his masterpiece, the words of which wero written by fjiat talented English poet, Alfred Noye's. A full rehearsal will bo held iii St. John's Schoolroom 011 Friday night at 8 o'clock.
