SENDING BACON HOME.

QUESTION OF TEMPERATURE. In connection with Australian shipments of bacon to Great Britain, the question, has arisen as to the. temperature ot which this produce should be carried. Under the Commonwealth Commerce Regulation?, bacon shipped from Australia lias to be carried at a temperaturo of not more than 20deg. Mr. Pressor, ti visiting 'bacon expert from England, has given it as his opinion that to obtain best results the temperature should be 28 to 30 degrees. With this view Mr. O'Callaghan and Mr. Crowe, dairy experts in New South Wales and Victoria respectively agreed. The Collector of Customs has accordingly been approached and asked to suspend the commerce regulation in respect of an experiment shipment. This he , has agreed to do, and arrangements are being made for a trial shipment at a temperaturo approximating 23 to 30 degrees.
