GOVERNMENT BLAMED,

Tho Lender oC the Opposition moved a motion deploring tho fact that the Government had not insisted on precautions being taken, which would have prevented terrible. IOS3 of life at North Lyell. He stated that he took this action liecauso tho mine was to be flooded;, ho would have withheld tho motion had he thought a coroner's inquiry would have been held. Tho Government accepted the motion as one. of want of confidence. The debate chiefly turned on the question of providing a second outlet at the mine. It was shown that tho mining regulations did not provide for this, excepting in the case of collieriea. 'i'lio debate was adjourned. Tho Lyell Company is keeping certain smelters going, and will construct a tram line to its Comstock property, chiefly with tiro object' of affording relief to the men rendered idle by the disaster, nml keeping the staff together till the men are again working. THE RELIEF FUND. Adelaide, October 21. The South Australian Government gives .£SOO to the Lyell mine relief fund.
