■ » Vice-Regal, His Excellency Lord Islington, accompanied by Captain Jl'Dougall, A.D.C., arrived in Christchureh from Wellington yesterday morning, and spent the day at Te Koraha. Last evening his Excellency opened tho Creche arid Kindergarten Festival at the Theatre Royal. This moming ho motore to llangiora, whore, at 10 o'clock, he will bo met by the Mayor and leading people. At 11 a.m. he opens the Ashley traffic bridge, and at noon ho attends the Rangiora show. His Excellency returns to Christchureh in the afternoon, and leaves by the evening etcamer for Wellington.—Press Association.

A vote ot condolence was passed in the Logistlntive Council yesterday regarding tho death of the late Mr. T. S. Wcston, n former member of Parliament, The Hons. H. D. Bell, T. Kelly, G. Jones, and G. J. Smith, spoke of the Rood work done by the deceased, and a motion was placed' on record, similar to the one passed in the House of Representatives on Wednesday.
The Rev. R. Evan Dayies, M.A., of Knox Church, Dunedin, arrives in Wellington by the Manuka this morning. Mr. Davies will occupy the pulpit at both services at St. John's Church next Sunday.
Tho Rev. Edward Long is gazetted an officiating minister under the Marriage Low.
Mr. K. A.-T. Aherne has been appointed shorthand-writer and typist in tho Chief Electoral Office, Wellington.
Messrs. F. R. Bnrnley, A. W. Craig, P. C. Gannaway, G. M. It. Jackson, and It. F. W. Mackenzie havo been, appointed assistant-surveyors to tho Department of Lands and Survey.
Mr. W. M. Ashton has been appointed Superintendent of Mercantile Marino at Kaiapoi.
The funeral of tho late Mr. W. W. M'Cardle, Mayor of Ptihiatun, took place yesterday afternoon, and was very largely 'attended by lioth town and country residents, despite tho wet weather. Tho cortege, which was a very representative and lengthy one, was headed by tho Pnhintua Brass Band, plnying the "Dead March." Borough Councillors, tho borough staff, the fire brigade, and members of the various institutions and local bodies to which tho late Mayor belonged, were- well represented. Many of the business premises wero draped, and all' the (hope closed for two hours to enable business people to attend. —Press Association.
The death is recorded of Mr. Graham Shannon, eldest son of Mr. G. V. Shannon, late of the Customs Department. The lato Mr. Shannon, who was 42 years of age, was born in Wellington.
