BILLIARDS.
PLAY FOR CRYSTALLATE CUP. A large number attended the final of the Erst round in the Alcock crystollate nip tournament. Contrary to expectations, the popular favourite, E .W. Warren, defeated his opponent, G. Owles, by a very small margin, after a struggle that waa exciting from go to slop. Warren made breaks of 51, 2(5 26, and 21, and eventually won by 37 points. Owles, who is quite « youngster, played surprisingly well, and as a "shot" player is wonderfully gifted. Fine shots, all round cannons, and losing and. winning . hnzards at lighting . speed, and with great accuracy, were playccl by Owles without, the least 'effort. Owles made runs of ,(5, 22, 10, and 18. Both player,-, had a great reception at the finish of the game, Owles's gritty showing winning for him nn ovation: The draw for the-second rounds is as fellows:—Thursday evening,' at 7.15: W. A. Fordhnm v. J. G. Godwin: at il p.m., E. W. Warren v. F. Farrell. Friday evening, at. 7.15: C. Ashcr v. Keys; at fl p.m., A. Wakem v. H. Cairns. The semi-finals and final will be played off on Tuesdny and Wednesday evenings, October 29 and 30.
