FIGHTING IN THE NORTH.

The Central News Agency has received .a dispatch from Sofia, stating that a desperate battle between Bulgarians and Turks is in progress at Kirk Kilisse, the principal fortified town on the road between Shumla (Bulgaria) and Constantinople, and lying 35 miles east of Adrianople. "Up to midday on Tuesday the Bulgarians had reported two thousand dead and four thousand wounded. ATTEMPT TO STORM TORTS. (Rec. October 23, 10.15 p.m.) Vienna, October 23. A Bulgarian column larger than that which attacked Mustafa Pasha, crossed the wooded mountains between Jamboli (Bulgaria) and Tirnovo (Turkey), and attacked Kirk Kilisse, apparently attempting to storm tho fortifications, instead of wailing for the siege artillery. Three of the forts are out of date, owing to their being too close to the town, but field works have recently been thrown up, forming a circle twelve miles around the town. There ore 120 gnus in the field works. TURKISH VICTORY CLAIMED. ' (Rec. October 2.1, 9.15 p.m.) / ■ Constantinople, October 23. An official report states that the Bulgarians have been defeated with heavy less at Kirk Kilisse. It is stated officially that the Turkish Army at Kirk Kilisse advanced east of Tunja village, and encountered the Bulgarians. Heavy fighting cccilrred, but the impetuous Turkish assault captured the posi tion. The Bulgarian losses were heavy. A second Turkish column was successful ■west of Kalimaudja. The fight "was continuing at nightfall, and the Turkish advance was proving irresistible.
