Joseph Taylor stated fhal he and deceased were labourers employed at Mount Algidus Station. On Saturday last deceased and witness left; tho station on horseback about six o'clock in the morning to come down to Christchurch. Deceased suggested that they should cross there, but witness demurred, as he believed it would lw too dangerous. Deceased said: "We'll chance it," and went into the river. Before he had gone far both he and the horse had disappeared. Deceased stuck to tho horse for fifty or sixty yards, and was then washed down the stream. Where tho accident luiyf ened the Wilborforce runs very fast. Witness could do nothing to help deceased, who was-woaring a heavy overcoat. W. Logan station manager, gave evidence as la the finding of tho body in the RakMa, sevAn miles from where it went in. The Wilberforco was a dangerous river, and nt. the point where deceased tried to cross particularly so. A verdict wos returned that deceased was acoidcntlv drowned.
