WAIAU RAILWAY LEAGUE.
(By Telegraph—Special Correspondent.) Christchurch, October 22. A special meeting of the Waiau Railway League, called to e.onsidor the Public Works Statement, was hold on Saturday evening. The president said that they were suffering from a very keen disappointment, for not a syllable appeared concernirfg the Culverdoii-Waiau railway in the Minister's Statement. Every public man or organisation which, they had approached had agreed that the lino should be gone on with. The support .which they had had behind them was most influential, but the results did not improve inuoh. The Authorisation Bill had yet to como down, and ho had no doubt that the Minister would authorise tho line, which was a step forward, and ho saw no reason why they should not obtain a vd'c on the Supplementary Estimates. Even illfl.OOO would go a long way. It was resolved: "That the Prime Minister and Minister for Public Works'be telegraphed to as follows: 'Settlers here are bitterly disappointed that no mention of the Culverdeii-Waiau line is made in the Public Works Statement, and the league trusts that tho Massey Government will make good the promises of the two previous Governments in tiiis respect, and provide for the Wnlau lino in this session's Authorisation Bill and Supplementary Estimates."" _ In replv lo the telegram, the Minister for Public Works has lelegraphed as follows: "Would it not be as well to .wait until von see (he Railway Authorisation miir'
