MOTOR ACCIDENT.

Mr. and Mrs. Grainger, of Patea, had an unpleasant experience whilst motoring through to Wellington on Monday. .When negotiating tho Paekakuriki Hill, the pin attached to the steering gear carried away, with the result,that Mr. Grainger lost control of the car, which ran off the road and fell a depth of about 30ft. Calls for help were' fortunately heard by Mr. SaviUo, who obtained tho assistance of Messrs. Robinson and Thompson, who extricated the motorists. Mr. and Mrs. Grainger, who were not seriously injured, came on' to Wellington. ' DEATH IN PRISON. Tho inquest concerning the death of Frederick Williams,'-who died in prison on Sunday morning, was concluded yesterday. Dr. M'Arthur. S.M., who conducted the inquiry, "found" that death was due to syncope, caused by bleeding of the lungs. DEATH BY POISON. Edward John Norman, a resident of Normandale. who for many years was fore-cabin steward on the Pateena, apparently met death by poison taken on Sunday afternoon, whether taken knowingly or not is not yet determined. Dr. Hectcr was called in, but too late, and death occurred at G a.m. on Monday. An inquest, conducted by Dr. M'ArHnir, District Coroner, was opened at Lower Hutt on Monday afternoon. Evidence of a preliminary nature was taken, and tho inquiry was adjourned until next Saturday morning. Deceased, who was .a married man, libout -15 years of age, leaves a widow.
