POTATO MARKET EXCITED.

FURTHER RISE PREDICTED. The demand for potatoes is such just now that holders should be reaping a rich harvest. At yesterday's market sales the wholesale price was £9 10s. per ton, with a good, but slackening demand on account of the.heavy price. 'L'he price this time last year was only «E4 10s. New potatoes i'rom the Auckland province have been held upon account of the block on tlie Jlain Trunk line, but they are now arriving by steamer as well as by rail. These consignments will ease the market to a small extent.

A local dealer in potatoes informed a representative of The Bojiixion yesti'i-day that he had just received advice from Christcluirch that the market vca> oxcited and sales had been made i'or Sydney nt',£9 ln.s. per ton. About three uionlhs ago, said the same informant-, merchants commenced to buy for New f-outh AValcs but the trado was looked upon as highly speculative. The potatoes, however, were taken up nil along'the line. The Government, of Jsew South Wales abated its rpstHctious on New Zealand tubers, and merchants gave farmers as hi;;h as from .CG to £8 per ton. In Victoria also the rojiulatioiis were relaxed, and potatoes have been goin;; in there more freely. In Adelaide a few days ago, it is stated, locaLpotatoes were selling at per ton. Tho.feeling, said one informant, is that potatoes in Wellington may advance to not les? thai\ ,£l2 per ton within the jiext week or two.

There are two sides to every question. Some people declare that dairy formiiiß is slavery, while others have <iuito a contrary opinion. Both are wronrr, and both' are right. At its worst, " dairy farming is a modified form of slavery, but at its best, it is as ■profitable and pleasant a busine-s as any man could desire. Dairy .farminjf is at its best, with 'an. up-to-date equipment which include.} a reliable Afilkinj Machine wlh an "Anderson" Oil Engine to provide tho necessary power. There's no "slavery" where mi "Anderson" Engine is instiilled; it does Ihe work of a nunibor of men without a hitch. These engines nre eminently suited to dairy farm -work and you should make a point of ordering one with your milking plant. Andersons, Ltd.. Christchurch.—Advt.

A good thing is cheap at any price. Tliafs why so many , factories hayo installed "Victor" Vats. Over n hundred Vafcs have been ordered, and tlio bettor known they become the greater is the demand.. Full particulars concerning the labour-paving, profit-increasing qualities o£ "Victor" Vnts can bo had from Albert J. Partou, Carterton.—Advt.
