His Excellency will return to Wellington on Saturday morning. Lady Islington will attend the performance of "The Merry Wives'of Windsor" at tho Opera House this evening. Dr. Wohlniaiin, Government balnnoologist, of Rotorua, lias been granted a year's leave of absence. Mr. L. T. fleichcl, formerly of tho Public Works Department, who invented a patent automatic fire alarm system, returned to Wellington by. tho Kimutakn on .Saturday evening. He states that lie has sold tho Canadian rights of his invention for 30,000 dollars, and that his system had been favourably reported on by tho Chicago Underwriters Laboratories. A French company has also taken up- the invention. Last night the Wellington Zoological Society passed a, resolution of sympathy with Mr. W. Jnck in tho Ijorenvcmcnt ho recently suffered by the death of his mother. Mr. Jack is a vice-presddont of tho society. A Press Association message from Svdney states that Commander Evans, of the Scott Antarctic ship Terra Nova, has arrived liere. Ho 'intends to depart for New Zealand on October 27.
