-4 EVIDEN'CE BEFORE THE COMMISSION. Jj 'Itleztavh— Press Association—CoDrrlibt Sydney, October 19. The Sugar Commission has adjourned «in« die. Mr. E. W. Knoi, general manager of the Colonial Sugar ' Refining Company, produced documents snowing that the Sugar Company's profits for the period 1901 to 1911 averaged 3s. 6d. per ton; last year they were 7s. Bd. He stated that newly-introduced Indian sugar workers in Fiji received Is. ad. a day, and those whose indentures had expired 25., both with housing. He claimed that they were better paid than the agricultural labourer in Europe.
