Somo have since left, and that tally cannot be checked," Mrs. M'Carthy, widow of J. M'Carthy, the entombed miner who left a piteous letter of farewell, has not died from ehpclf, as was reported yesterday. SEARCH PARTY FORCED TO RETREAT. (Eeo. October 21, 1 a.m.) Hobart, October 20. A paTty of nine descended to the 700 ft. leyel at the North Mt. Lyell mine for the purpose of recovering bodies, but the noxious fumes compelled them to retreat. . ■ ■ The blast furnace has been allowed to run down, ' and. smelting has been discontinued. , , ' .
