Tlie Y.M.C.A. seven days* campaign undertaken in order that the new building might be opened free of debt, was , not as successful as could be wished. Out of .£ISOO aimed at only .£867 was raised. It is >tho committee's intention,'however, immediately to consider ways and means of raising the balance required. Owing to the heavy rains inland as well as. the thawing of the mountain snows by the mild weather, the river at present is running very high, .though no fears are-entertained of serious floods. A special meeting of the Chamber of Commerco was held this morning to consider whnt action, if any, should be taken inreeard to the Wanganui Harbour Bill. The feeling of the meeting Eoemed decidedly ngainst dropping the Bill, but in order that the mntter may be fully laid before the ratepayers who nre the people chiefly concerned as regards responsibility for the proposed loan, it was decided that a public meeting should be held next Monday evening when tho matter will be threshed out and a definite course of action decided upon.
