ROWING.

(By Telegraph— Prefe Association.) Wanganui, October 20. The rowing season opened on Saturday. Tho weather was winilv, but there was a large attendance ol' the public, and an excellent turn out of rowing men. SEASON OPENED AT PETONE. On Saturday afternoon the weather was favourable for the opening of tho Petono Rowing Club's season. A very large number ol' people were present, including visitors from the Wellington and Star Sowing Clubs, Petone Navals, Heretaunga Boating Club, and tile Te Aro Sailing Club.

Mr. K. Mothes, in declaring the season open, said that the club nad started with practically nothing, but at the present time its assets amounted to .CliOO, and liabilities to -£150, showing that the club was strong financially, The membership had also increased, and each, year tho club was stronger. He wished members the very best nf seasons, and hoped suecess would follow them in rowing 'events. Cheers were then given, anil a procession of all the crafts present filed along the water front. Races were then held over a quartermile course, the results being as under:— Senior fours: Petone (Pnrraul, Tremain, White. Burridge), 1; Wellington (Jenkins, Cairns, Godfrey, Rafter), 2; Star (Holmes, Tomlinson, Carr, Roberts), 3. Won l.y' a canvass. Senior pairs: Petone (Sharon and Parrtint), 1; Star (Brewer and Tunibull), 'i; Wellington (Godfrey and Jenkins), 3. Junior fours (first heat): Star, 1; Petone, No. 2, 2. Second heat: Petone No. 1, 1; Wellington, 2. Final: Star (Martin, J. M'Kay, Mitchell, D. M'Kay), 1; Petone No l'(Blaud, Clapham, Ingham, and Commelti), 2. Won by a quarter of n length, Junior pairs: Petone (Kemp and JEckey), 1; Wellington (Symonds and Woodnut), 2. Won by a length. During the afternoon occasion was taken by the president to present three medals to A. Wylie, J. Wiles, and P. Watt, tho successful coxswains Inst season. Excellent afternoon tea was provided and supervised by Mcsdames Lowen.-Tre-main, Mothes, Moore, Tetley, Misses Drummom! (2), .Mothes (2), olid Miss Moore.
