LAWN TENNIS.
WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION.. The council, of tho Wellington Proviil" cial'Lawn, Tennis Association held a special general mooting in the Wellington Investment Company'"' board-room on Wednesday evening. Mr. R. St. J. Boere presided. The first motion which came before tho meeting was lo the effect that—this association should purchase or lease a piece of land for tennis courts at a place and on terms to be determined by the association, and that the committee be instructed to cause inquiries to l>e made as to suitable grounds, and present n. report to (he council within four weeks' from dalo. Tho motion was carried unanimously. Mr. P. P. Wilson' had placed a motion on the order sheet: "That the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association's lew on this association be met, and a fuuH bo inaugurated for tho provision of grounds in tho future, by a levy on the affiliated clubs, of one shilling,and threepence per member of city clubs, and sixpence per member of country clubs/ in addition to tho ordinary subscription; such surplus levy to be kept in a separate fund, and that the attention of clubs be drawn to tho benefits of such provision of and the. small tax imposed oil each member, and' that Rule 7 be amended accordingly." After considerable discussion as to tin fairness of thus taxing country clubs for the benefit of the town players,.Mr. Hurley moved: "That the motion be held over and considered further when tho committee present the result of their investigations regarding the grounds." After further discussion Mr. Hurley's motion was carried- and the. meotiug adjourned. . .
