NEW EVENING JOURNAL.
IN CHRISTCHURCH.

Mr. E. C. Huie, who lately resigned th« editorship of the "Evening News," was entertained at an informal gathering of his journalistic friends on Saturday nl £yt, and a presentation was mado to him. Mr. Huie, in the course of a brief speech t of thanks, announced that a new evening newspaper would he established in Chnstchurch in tho near future, With that object in view Sir. Huie said that a company had been registered in Christehurcll that day, and its prospectus would be issued forthwith. It is understood that the promoters of tho new company, uto gentlemen who lmve been closely interested in the Political Reform League, and that thev include Messrs. D. D. Moofarltine, H. D. Acland, W. G. .Tamieson, J. Hovels, and J. J. Dougall. Mr. A. H. Turnbull and Dr. Stevenson are also interested m tho venture. Tlic nominal capital or the company is stated to be .*75,000. The new journal will bo a daily and it is expected that it will 1)0 issued, possibly within tho next six months, but certainly within twelve months. Tt is also understood that tho editorship has been offered to Mr. Huie.
