Wanganni shipping records were broken to-day when tho Union Company's new steamer ICaTamu, 934 tons, arrived here from Newcastle. She is the largest, vessel so far to enter the port. She discharged about a third of her cargo at New Plymouth yesterday, and after a good run down the coast Inst, night, crossed the Wanganui bar this morning and came right up to town, berthing at the conl wharf without the slightest difficulty. Speaking of tho port, Captain Baldwin said Wanganui appeared to have the elements of one of the best of tho bar harbours of New Zealand. It had all the • advantages of Westport and Grevmouth, ■ and hardly any of tneir disadvantages.
