The Industrial Court judgment in the dispute between the waterside workers and the North Coast Steamship Company, as to whether the company has the power to employ seamen in conjunction with wharf labourers in the holds of vessels, finds that members of the union, by virtue of the preference clause of the award, have the first call on all inter-State coastal vessels, but that if they fail to provide sufficient labour, the employers are entitled to employ constant hands or non-union labour. The Court calls upon the union to withdraw its refusal to work cargo for the company, failing whioh others must be allowed to do it.
