■ -*^— —- GAS BILL DENOUNCED. By Telegr&Dh—Press Association—Oopjrislit ' Sydney, October 11. When the Meagher Reinstatement Bill [providing for the readmission of Mr. E. D. Meagher as a solicitor) was introduced in the Legislative Council, Mr; Nash Tais--6(1 the, point that as the measure was not apcompanjed by the report of the Select Committee, it could not be entertained. It was agreed to argue the point later, and "consideration r was adjourned' until Thursday next. ' ' . The Sydney Gas Bill has lad a stormy passage, in the Council. It has reached the Committee stage. The Bill has been denounced by some members as absolute confiscation. The Legislative Assembly had a twenty hours' continuous' sitting on the' Early Closing Bill. There is strong opposition to the shutting of soft drink shops and chemists' and butchers' shops. There were many jeremiads as to the probable effect .of the Bill. I A measure ratifying the agreement with ! the Broken Hill Proprietary Company, to establish an iron and steel works at Newcastle, was referred to a Select Committee. ''.■••
