LEAVE OF ABSENCE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. 1 Fourteen cloys leave of absence was granted to -Mr. H. M. C'ampholl (Hawke's Bay) on the ijrolmd of serious illness. BUSINESS OF THE SESSION. Sir. G, W. RUSSELL. (Avon) asked the Fririie Minister' to make a statement as to what business the Gbv'eriiment proposed to' put through" during the present, session. It would 110 doubt facilitate business, Mr. Russell remarked, if -piembers knew what the Government' intended to go on with, 'lie-also asked-the'Prime Minister whether he would -.forward, to the Lands Committee the amendments''which''he proposed to make in the Land Bill. The PRIME; MINISTER.said that' it would give hirii'great pleasure to inform the House withm a day : or' two'what business the Government intended to proceed with. Members could easily see this for themselves by looking at'the Order Paper. One or two Bills were at present before a committee. There might be a fewBills not yet introduced. Some difficulty had' been experienced in getting' Bills drafted during the present session, owing to the fact that the"' Government had come into office after the ; session started. The amendments to the land Bill had already been sent to the Lands " Committee. PUBLIC WORKS STATEMENT. . Mr. G. WITTY (Riccarton) asked when the Public Works Statement would be brought down. Tho Hon. W. FRASER said that tho Public, Vvorks Statement would not bp brought' down this week. It might be brought down nest week, but he could not give any definite promise. - NOTICE'0 r F BILLS'. The Hon. F. M. B. FISHER gave notice of the Harbours Amendment Bill, Mr. AV. A. Vcitch, of the 'Wangamii _ Harbour District and Empowering Bill No. 2, and the Hon. .Tames Allen of the Savings, Bank Amendment Bill. " MONDAY SITTINGS. The Hon. W. F. MASSEY- (Prime Jlinister) intimated that ho would move that on and after October H fTie House sit oil Mondays at 7.30 p.m. To a question, Mr. Massey replied that lie intended to. give next Monday evening for Local Bills, FIRST READINGS. The Native Land Amendment Bill (the Horn W.'H. Herries); and the Shearers' and Agricultural Labourers' Accommodnlion Amendment Bill (the Hon. F. MaSsey) were read a first time.
