Company's steamer Malwa, which is time-tabled to leave liondnu oil November 1, and to arrive in Sydney on December 12. Jt is not known yet if he will leave the mail boat at Adelaide, and journey on to Sydney l:y rail, or whether ho will conic right on to Auckland by tho Malwa, which is due to -arrive in Auckland on December 20 and would necessitate a few days' stnv in Sydney. It is more than likely, however! that. Lord and Lady Liverpool will leave ill© Malwa nl Melbourne or Sydney, and pick up the steamer leaving that port direct for Wellington on December 7th, which would mean that ho would arrive here on December 11. The Hcv. Jnmos Thomas, who has spent over twenty-fivo years of his ministry in Now Zealand, left Auckland for Australia by the Mnheno on Holiday night. In the morning, Mr. Thomas was the recipient of n handsome presentation volumo from the Methodist ministers of Auckland. The Rev. W. Ready (president of the conference), who. made the presentation, and the Revs. ti. Bond, T. G. Corr, and A. C. Lawry voiced tho esteem in which Mr. Thomas has been hold by his brethren, and wished him Godspeed and all prosperity. Mr. Thomas feelingly replied.

L, Wilson, of Wellington, who was for some years on the staff of Messrs. Young and Tripe, has taken up a position in the Auckland legal firm of Slessrs. Wynyard and Skelton. A Press Association message from London states that Mr. H. N.' Slomun, classical English master at liadley College, Abingdon, has been appointed headmaster of Sydney Grammar School. At a meeting of the deacons of the Vivian Street Baptist Church last week, it was decided to uso every effort to induco the liev. J. J. North to continuo his sorvico with the church here. This evening n meeting of the members of tho church will bo held to go into the matter, and it is hoped' that Mr. North may be persuaded to decline the offer ho has received from Christcliurch. The ballot taken on I'riday last for the election of a new permanent secretary ti. the Auckland Tramway Employees' Union resulted in tho return, by an overwhelming majority of Mr. H. Carter, who polled 390' votes. Tho unsuccessful candidates were: Messrs. C. M'Millan, 50 votes; D. J. Murphy, 31 votes; J. Willis, IG votes; and H. TJrquhnrt, two votes. The election was rendered neocssary by the resignation of Mr, Arthur TCossor.
